Rockets split back-to-back with Dragons

Rockford and Litchfield had an unusual situation this year that due to “freeze-out” earlier in the year, they ended up playing games against each other on back to back nights.

Thursday night found the Rockets in Litchfield beating the Dragons on their home court 67-52. Rockets looked good this game after a slow start.

Friday night Litchfield came to Rockford’s senior night and youth basketball night and proceeded to return the favor going home with a 65-45 victory. Rockford was in a tail-spin this game for whatever reason, dunno if the seniors had that crushing agony of knowing their High School basketball careers were approaching an end, or if they just had a bad game. But it was disastrous on the court whatever the cause.

Rockets record moves to: 16-8 overall, 6-2 in the section and 8-6 in the conference. Rockford is firmly embedded in the middle of the conference at 5. Not much chance of moving up, but they do have 2 conference games left. Winning both and some creative losses by some teams above and they could move up to #4 and on a long long reach, #3. The section now holds Rockford in the #8 spot, the last of the 1st round bye positions, so a win against Howard Lake next week, would go a long way to helping that cause. The Rockets got passed in the section standings by Holy Family who in a shocker took down the #1 5AA team Blake (big accomplishment as Blake is #4 OVERALL in class AA in the entire state and #52 overall across ALL teams at ALL levels). Goes to show… ANYONE is beatable. Breck’s strength of schedule is coming into play too, while only 15-9 overall, they are 5-0 in the section. And their wins encompass teams across AAAA, AAA and they recently beat Minneapolis North in a nail biter AT NORTH.

The 5AA section tournament is shaping up to be a dog-fight!

Rockets have 2 regular season games remaining on the schedule, and we need BOTH of them to lock-down a home game in the playoffs.

  • Tue 2/25 is a home game (Section & Conference game) against Howard Lake Waverly Winsted
  • Thu 2/27 is a home game (Conference game) against Norwood Young America
