Rockford sweeps Watertown-Mayer on the Conference Season

The Royals arrived in Rockford ‘hot’ to avenge an early season blowout loss vs the Rockets, only to be trounced once again 58 – 43, on a special night where Rockford Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Michael Tauber attained his 400th win.

Congrats!

A little change to the upcoming schedule… originally 2/10 was scheduled to be the make-up Litchfield game. That has CHANGED. The Away game at Litchfield will now be played on THURSDAY 2/20 instead. Then on Friday 2/21, Litchfield will come to Rockford to cap the back-to-back.

So, upcoming games:

  • Friday 2/7 @ Annandale (5:45pm Varsity)
  • Tuesday 2/11 @ Dassel Cokato (7:30pm Varsity)
  • Friday 2/14 HOME vs Glencoe-Sliver Lake (5:30pm Varsity)
  • Tuesday 2/18 HOME vs Howard Lake (5:30pm Varsity)
  • Thursday 2/20 @ Litchfield
  • Friday 2/21 HOME vs Litchfield
  • Thursday 2/27 HOME vs Norwood-Young America / Central

And that’s it! End of regular season

Looks like for the section tournament MSHSL is planning that the first 4 teams in the section will get a first round BYE with the remaining 12 teams duking it out for a spot in the final 8. There must be a pre-sections game to decide position 16 from 16 playing 17, or 17 just doesn’t make it… not sure how that will be handled. But AT THIS TIME:

  • First 4: Blake, Mpls North, SW Christian, Breck
  • (5) Hiawatha Collegiate vs (16) Metro Schools College Prep OR (17) Cristo Rey Jesuit
  • (6) Jordan vs (15) Brooklyn Center
  • (7) Rockford vs (14) Providence Academy
  • (8) Holy Family vs (13) Dassel-Cokato
  • (9) Watertown vs (12) Eagle Ridge Academy
  • (10) Howard Lake vs (11) Maranatha

Of course, that is all subject to change, and it COULD be that many teams haven’t reported their full schedule results yet, you just never know. But, it gives you a feel for the general organization of where things are at and will be close to that most likely.

Conference-wise:

  • (1) Glencoe 9-1 (15 – 4 overall)
  • (2) Watertown 8-2 (12-7 overall)
  • (3) Annandale 6-4 (9-8 overall)
  • (4) Rockford 5-4 (13-6 overall)
  • (5) Norwood 5-4 (10-8 overall)
  • (6) Litchfield 4-5 (7-12 overall)
  • (7) Howard Lake 4-6 (9-9 overall)
  • (8) Dassel Cokato 4-7 (6-12 overall)
  • (9) New London 0-12 (1-18 overall)

That ranking is based on Conference standings and then overall in the event two teams have the same conference record. That can still entirely shuffle as there are still 7 conference games left on the Rockford schedule… so… It’s still in reach!
